What I Love About Valentine’s Day
February 14th is one of my very favorite days. While I don’t love the “Hallmarky-ness” of the holiday, I do love hearts. I love sending love notes. I love sweet treats (and the excuse to bake and gift them). So this holiday is right up my alley. I don’t know what it is about hearts but I save up all my heart-themed ideas all year in anticipation of executing on them come February. Of course my intentions to go big on Valentine’s Day are quickly reined in by my actual bandwidth, but the thought is there!
My longest running V-Day tradition is the Heart Attack. Inspired by Oh Happy Day, I first gave Gary a heart attack in 2012, and I’ve kept it up (almost) every year since. 2012 was simple streamers. In 2017 I went for the Valentine Party in a Box – one of my faves. 2019 included baby Gus hearts. This year my toddler helped my color dozens of hearts for our installation!
Here are the V-Day-themed things I am loving this year, plus oodles of ideas saved for years to come:
- Toddler-friendly Teddy Graham snacks
- Cotton Clara Heart Hoops
- Watercolor Valentines
- These and these themed PJs
- Some friends got this mini banner in the mail this year
