My toddler has recently become very opinionated and obsessed with certain things – trucks and buses, Elmo, rain boots – but most of all THE MOON!

We don’t really know how this started except one day when he was around 21 months old he and I were walking home from the nanny share down the block and he pointed to the sky, said “MOON”, and much to my surprise, there she was! A waxing crescent that he (apparently) recognized from countless readings of Goodnight Moon.

Now he calls the moon “moonie” – many nouns now end in “ie” – but even back then it was obvious we should throw him a moon-themed second birthday party: TWO THE MOON!

We had it all planned out (just short of invites going out) when Coronavirus hit. But the universe sent Gus the all-time best gift to make up for it: A Pink Super Moon. Not just any old super moon, the BIGGEST super moon of 2020!

So on his birthday-eve we staked out an Eastern-facing view of the horizon and we were not disappointed! Gary and Gus commenced a mini howling session, and with that, all Gus’s two-year old birthday wishes came true.

Here are Gus’s favorite moon things:

BOOKS:

What is the Moon?  by Usborne

Moon: A Peek-Through Picture Book

I Love You to the Moon and Back

Moons show up in countless children’s books. If a book has one he’s found it.

CLOTHING:

PJs (we have in 2 sizes)

Matching sleep sack

Lunar shorties

Moon Phases T-shirt

TOYS:

Stuffed Moon from his girlfriend Mila

He’d probably love this stacking toy

If he does really get into space maybe we’ll have to spring for the Black Hole set!

And mom’s favorite PARTY DECOR and ART &CRAFTS:

I’m so curious, what are other toddlers obsessed with right now? Is space a popular toddler theme? What’s coming next?
